According to rumors, Apple is investing heavily in the development and production of sapphire crystals for their future i-devices (eg, iPhone 6 and iWatch). And the main competitors (though also rumored) companies – Samsung and LG – are not going to be left behind.
According to new data from the Korean media, both manufacturers are exploring the possibility of installation on their future smartphones, tablets and “smart watches” durable sapphire glass. According to reports, the mobile unit of Korean industrial giants are in talks with producers of sapphire protective glass for displays.
Line in manufacturing sapphire crystals
Most (normal) smartphones and tablets today are equipped with safety glass Gorilla Glass, whereas sapphire analogues used primarily to protect the watch companies dials expensive watches.
Sapphire glasses are durable, scratch-resistant, not as brittle as glass Gorilla Glass (and also have other advantages, seen from the table above), which is ideal for smartphones. Another question – how the device will be protected by a sapphire crystal is more expensive than their counterparts with Gorilla Glass?
